The Pilgo – Sharing Cup Foundation

The Pilgo – Sharing Cup Foundation is a social impact initiative created to improve access to pill-swallowing support for children, adults and vulnerable individuals who struggle to take tablets. If you are already aware of the Foundation and have come to apply as a partner, please use our Contact Form to get in touch.

The Foundation is operated by Pilgo, a UK-based brand focused on developing practical, confidence-building solutions to help people overcome difficulties with pill swallowing. The initiative exists to ensure that cost, availability or awareness are not barriers to accessing a simple tool that can make a meaningful difference to daily medication use.

The Problem We Address

Pill swallowing is a vital life skill, yet millions of people struggle with it.

For some, the difficulty is driven by fear or anxiety, often beginning in childhood. For others, it is linked to discomfort or physical challenges, including dysphagia. As a result, people may avoid medication, delay treatment, or rely on alternatives such as liquid medicines, which are often difficult to obtain and not always appropriate.

Despite the prevalence of the issue, pill-swallowing difficulty is frequently overlooked, and access to supportive tools within institutional settings can be limited.

About Pilgo

Pilgo is a pill-swallowing training and assistance tool designed to help users learn and practise swallowing tablets with greater confidence.

By guiding the tablet within a controlled flow of water, Pilgo helps make the process calmer and more manageable. It has been sold by independent pharmacies and assisted living retailors for over ten years and is used by children, adults and long-term pill-swallowing sufferers as a training aid. Many users report that they no longer need the product once confidence is established.

Pilgo does not treat dysphagia and is not a medical device. It is a practical aid intended to support pill intake where swallowing tablets is difficult.

The Sharing Cup Foundation Model

The Pilgo – Sharing Cup Foundation operates on a one-for-one model.

For every Pilgo purchased commercially, one Pilgo is donated through the Foundation to support individuals who may otherwise lack access. In many cases, donations are made in advance, enabling immediate distribution within appropriate settings.

Donations are focused on organisations where pill-swallowing difficulty is commonly encountered, including:

  • NHS trusts and clinical settings
  • Children’s health and education services
  • Care homes and supported living environments
  • Universities and student health services
  • Charitable and community organisations

Pilgo is simple to use, non-electronic, reusable and suitable for supervised settings where calm, repeatable practice is beneficial.

Our Aims and Commitments

The Foundation is guided by the following commitments:

  • To improve access to pill-swallowing support for those who need it most
  • To work collaboratively with organisations, clinicians and carers
  • To provide donated products free of charge, without obligation
  • To maintain transparency in how donations are funded and distributed
  • To ensure all activity is ethical, appropriate and aligned with care settings

The Foundation is not a registered charity at this stage, but a dedicated social impact programme operated by Pilgo. All donations are funded directly through product sales or pre-funded allocation.

Working With Partner Organisations

We work with partner organisations to ensure donations are appropriate, useful and responsibly deployed. We welcome conversations with organisations interested in supporting individuals who experience difficulty swallowing pills and would value discussing how Pilgo may be used within their setting.

This may include pilot use within a ward, service or programme, staff familiarisation, and feedback to help ensure the product is used appropriately.

Accessing the Sharing Cup Foundation Programme

The Pilgo – Sharing Cup Foundation aims to ensure that donated products are deployed thoughtfully and where they can have genuine benefit.

To support this, organisations interested in receiving Pilgo through the Foundation are invited to share a brief outline of their intended use. This helps ensure that donations are aligned with need, appropriately supported, and actively used within the setting.

Typical information requested includes the proposed location or service, the patient or user profile, and how Pilgo would be introduced or supervised in practice. This is not intended to be burdensome, but to support responsible distribution and meaningful impact.

While Foundation donations are finite, discounted commercial supply may also be available where this supports continuity of use or wider access within an organisation.

Organisations interested in participating are invited to register their interest via our Contact Form, where further details are provided.
